Holy Iron

Emma Filtness

Holy Iron is a mixed media work (text and image collage with stitching on hand-dyed cloth) exploring the poet’s fascination with the founding material of the steel-town she grew up in. The word for iron has changed over time as different, often migrant, populations worked the ironstone beds.

Emma Filtness is a poet and lecturer in Creative Writing at Brunel University London. Her poetry was displayed as part of the world’s first Instagram Poetry exhibition at the National Poetry Library. Emma finds inspiration in nature, makes zines and particularly enjoys exploring found and visual poetics.
