Uncover is a respond to Denise Hawrysio’s Cover-to-Cover-project inspired by Michael Snow’s book Cover to Cover (1975). It examines the process of viewing and emphasises the camera and the artist’s involvement in viewing. Silje’s vision was to use images from Norway inspired by an overexposed polaroid she took of her sister in 2014. Being based in London she made Cover to explore her ideas and techniques before travelling to Norway and taking the images for Uncover making the two books siblings. ‘Cover Uncover’ looks at memory through overlapping, fading and the movement of the page. Using polaroid photos in book projects is usually expensive, but the nature of the project allows and welcomes re-photographing which makes it possible to explore the process of photographing and the development of photos.
